EUONYMUS FORTUNEI.
The numerous cultivars of this species are useful versatile evergreens,
which will thrive in shade, and either cover the ground, reaching about
2ft, or climb walls and fences reaching 10ft or more. Z6:
‘Cannadale Gold’; dark green with yellow edges;
‘Dart’s Blanket’; plain dark glossy green turning bronze
red in
winter;
‘Emerald & Gold’; green with a lot of yellow;
‘Silver Queen’; dark green with white margins;
‘Sunspot’; dark green with a central yellow splash.
GENISTA LYDIA.
A beautiful little shrub with semi-prostrate arching branches which will
flow over a rock or low wall. A complete mass of yellow flowers in early
summer. 2ft x 2ft. Z5.
GENISTA PILOSA
Prostrate shrub with spreading branches and small dark green leaves,
producing small yellow flowers in 5” spikes in late spring and early
summer. 1ft x 3ft. Z6.
GENISTA SAGITALIS.
A curious little shrub with broad winged stems and few leaves, having a
prostrate habit and carrying dense heads of sharp yellow flowers in
early summer. 6” x 3ft. Z7.
HEBE
The writer is keen on these useful small evergreens, but we find the
larger flowered hybrids to be not reliably hardy, while the following
are all considered to be so, all Z8 (Caledonia may be borderline):

HELIANTHEMUM.
Small low growing evergreens which will fill many situations such as
rock gardens, terracing, raised beds, or the front of borders. All have
1” saucer shaped flowers over a long period, from late spring to
mid-summer, and reach about 8” x 12”. Z7. We offer;

HYDRANGEA
MICROPHYLLA LILACINA
A tough, reliable version of the lacecap hydrangea. A good blue in acid
soil, otherwise pink, 5ft x5ft. Z7.
HYPERICUM ‘HIDCOTE’
A valuable, semi-evergreen shrub which will grow in almost any
situation. Three inch, cup shaped golden yellow flowers, with orange
stamens, from mid-summer to early autumn. 4ft x 4ft. Z7. |
