ACONITUM CARMICHAELII ARENDSII.

Tall erect perennial with rich green divided foliage. Spikes of rich blue delphinium like flowers in mid and late summer. 4ft x 1ft. Z4. Toxic if eaten.

 AJUGA REPTANS ATROPURPUREA.

Creeping prostrate spreading evergreen with dark red leaves and spikes of blue flowers. A useful filler in many situations. Z7. 

 AJUGA REPTANS ‘BLACK SCALLOP’.

Similar to the above but with larger darker leaves. Z7. 

AJUGA REPTANS ‘CAITLINS GIANT’

A slightly scaled up version of the above with 8” flower spikes and larger leaves.  Z7

ALCHEMILLA ALPINA

Nothing like Alchemilla mollis. A flat mat forming plant with dark green small glossy leaves, silver-grey on the reverse. Tiny yellow flowers in summer. 3” x 6”. Z5. 

ANEMONE HUPHENSIS JAPONICA ‘PAMINA’.

Notably prolific anemone with reddish-purple flowers 2ft x 1ft. Z4.

Similar to ‘Honorine Jobert’ below.

Superb  white form of Japanese Anemone. Dark green leaves large pure white flowers with yellow stamens. Flowers for nearly three months from early autumn. 4ft x 2ft. Z6.

 ANTHEMIS TINCTORIA KELWAYI  

A useful border perennial. A basal clump of  foliage surmounted  by sheaves of showy yellow daisy like flowers over a long period in summer. 3ft x 3ft. Z5.

 AQUILEGIA BLACK BARLOW

Almost black, fully double nodding blooms in late spring. Blue-green divided foliage. 18” x 12”. Z5.

 AQUILEGIA CLEMATIFLORA.

An aquilegia with clematis like flowers. Reddish-purple, May to July. 2ft. Z4.

ARMERIA PSEUDOARMERIA.

Dense clump forming front of border plant. Round heads of white flowers from a basal rosette of leaves. 18” x 12”. Z7 

ARTEMISIA LUDOVICIANA SILVER QUEEN

A clump forming plant grown for its silvery grey foliage.  Brownish yellow flowers in midsummer.This hybrid has larger leaves than the parent.  3ft x 2ft. Z6.

 ASPHODELINE LUTEA

The erect flower spikes  clothed in blue-grey grass like leaves emerge from a clump of similar leaves.  8” racemes of bright yellow fragrant flowers in late spring. An unusual plant.  3ft x 1ft. Z7 

ASTER FRIKARTII ‘MONCH’.

One of the finest asters. Very long flowering from July to October with 2 ½” lavender  blue flowers, on stout upright stems. to 3ft. Included by Graham Stuart Thomas in his six best garden plants.

 ASTER NOVAE-ANGLIAE  ‘ALMA POTSCHKE’.

Michaelmas Daisy. 2in. bright cerise pink flowers on compact growth. Flowers late August to late    October  4ft x 2ft.  Z2.

ASTER NOVAE-ANGLIAE ‘PURPLE DOME’.

Violet-purple Michaelmas Daisy. Compact growth to 2ft. flowers late August to late October. Z2.

 ASTER NOVAE-BELGII ‘MARIE BALLARD’.

Perfectly formed clear lavender-blue flowers about 2” across. Blooms late summer to mid-autumn. The ultimate Michaelmas Daisy. 3ft x 1ft. Extremely hardy. Z2. 

ASTRANTIA ‘HADSPEN BLOOD’.

The flowers are deepest reddish-purple. An excellent cultivar. 2ft x 1ft. Z6.

 ASTRANTIA MAJOR ‘LARS’.

Similar to ‘Major’ below, but flowers are deeper pink.

 ASTRANTIA MAJOR ROSEA

Clump forming perennial with lobed geranium like leaves around the base. clusters of small pink coloured flowers held on stems above the leaves in early and midsummer.  2ft x 1ft. Z5.

 ASTRANTIA MAXIMA ROSEA.

Arguably the finest species, with large flowers to 1½in. in soft rose pink. Needs rich soil and good light. 2-3ft. Z6.
