PERENNIALS
GEUM ‘MRS. BRADSHAW’:
Broad clump of hairy leaves, scarlet double flowers in early summer,18” x18”.Z6
GUNNERA MAGELLANICA.
Low growing plant for damp or wet places. Scalloped 3” dark green glossy leaves. Small green flowers, followed by scarlet berries. 4” x 18”. hardy to about -10C.
HELENIUM ROTE TONE
Brownish red 3” daisy flowers on 4ft stems August to October. Z4.
HELENIUM HOOPSII.
A tough perennial from the Rocky Mountains. A good rosette of large broad dark green leaves. Stems carry 3 to 8 3” yellow daises from June to September. 36” x 18”. Z4.
HELIOPSIS HELIANTHOIDES SCABRA ‘SOMMERSONNE’.
A useful long lasting yellow daisy. Dark green leaves 3” single flowers mid summer to early autumn 3ft x 2ft. Z5
HELLEBORUS ARGUTIFOLIUS. (syn. H. corsicus).
One of the earliest flowers of the year, the green tinted white cup shaped flowers appearing in January and continuing to bloom until April. Very attractive evergreen foliage. According to Graham Stuart Thomas, “the whole plant is a symphony of beauty. 2ft x 2ft. Z7.
HELLEBORUS ORIENTALIS:
We have a dark plum coloured hybrid of the Lenten rose. Dark glossy evergreen leaves. Flowers mid-winter to mid-spring. 18” x 18”. Z5.
HEMEROCALLIS:
Day Lily. Easily grown type of lily. Large 3ft tall clumps of strap like leaves, with a succession of flowers in early and mid-summer. All about Zone 5. Of the 1,000 or so named cultivars we offer:
‘Bela-lugosi’: deep purple 6in. thick petalled flowers with a vivid green throat and ruffled edges from mid-July. 3ft
‘Bonanza’: plain orange:
‘Franz
Hals’: Alternate petals orange, or brick red with an orange stripe.
‘Lilio-Asphodelus: an old small species with beautiful lily shaped yellow flowers in spring.
‘Golden Chimes’: Butter yellow
‘Sammy Russell’; Brick red with lighter mid-ribs above an orange throat. 2½ ft.
HEUCHERA ‘CHOCOLATE RUFFLES’.
Ruffled leaves, red-chocolate above reddish-purple below. Small greenish flowers. 18in. x 12in. Z5.
HEUCHERA CYLINDRICA ‘GREENFINCH’:
Mound forming perennial, evergreen, with dark green leaves marbled with paler green, bearing spikes of small creamy green tubular flowers. A good foliage plant. 2ft x 1ft. Z5.
HEUCHERA MICRANTHA ‘PALACE PURPLE’.
Similar to the above but larger with coppery purple leaves and pink flowers. Indispensable.2ft x 2ft. Z5.
HEUCHERA ‘OBSIDIAN’.
Very dark green almost black leaves. Round lobed and evenly coloured. Cream flowers. 18in. x 12in.
HOSTAS:
Shade loving plants grown mainly for their mounds of foliage, either solid coloured in many shades, or variegated in many patterns. Hostas flower from June although the flowers are not dramatic in most cultivars. We normally have the following in stock:
‘August Moon’; oval gold leaves 9in. x 8in. 2ft x 1½ft. Z3
‘Frances Williams’; leaves blue-green with margins starting pale green turning gold. Good white flowers. Slug resistant 2½ft x 2ft. Z3.
‘Golden Tiara’; green centred with gold margins, purple flowers in July. 2ft x 2ft. Z3.
‘Patriot’; large 8in. x 6in. leaves, dark green with white margins. Lavender flowers late July. Deservedly popular. 2½ft x 2ft. Z3.
‘Undulata univitata’; white centres with green margins, strong growing to 3ft. Z3.
‘ventricosa’; bold shiny dark green leaves form a 2ft. mound. Large tall purple flowers in July make this one of the most impressive blooms. Easy and reliable. Z3.
