PLEIOBLASTUS: This genus contains mainly small or medium sized bamboos from 9” to about 10ft. All those listed below are ideal for small gardens, and containers, and are easily controlled. They can suffer ‘scorching’ in strong winds.
PLEIOBLASTUS AURICOMUS.
Very attractive leaves 1” x 6” bright yellow with green stripes. About 5ft. Z7.
PLEIOBLASTUS CHINO ELEGANTISSIMUS.
Slender canes reaching about 4ft with narrow white striped leaves. Needs protection from strong winds. Z7.
PLEIOBLASTUS CHINO TSUBOI.
A delicate dwarf variety, with cream and green variegated foliage. Needs a reasonably sheltered site. About 2ft. Z7.
PLEOBLASTUS FORTUNEI VARIEGATUS.
Similar to the above reaching up to about 3ft. Z7
PLEIOBLASTUS PYGMAEUS.
Probably the smallest bamboo, about 9” high. A vigorous spreader but easily restricted. Attractive ground cover. Z7.
PLEOBLASTUS SIMONII.
A reliable easily grown species, with plain mid-green narrow leaves, and slender stems. About 10ft. Z7.
